SUMMARY
Air infiltration testing measures the amount of outside air that leaks into a building. This testing verifies compliance with the IECC, reduces the number of failed inspections, and helps teams identify envelope issues before closeout.
Most projects require testing per dwelling unit or sleeping unit. Blink Energy also performs whole-building blower door testing for commercial and large multifamily buildings throughout Texas.

WHAT IS AIR INFILTRATION TESTING?
Air infiltration testing utilizes a temporary blower door system to assess a building’s air leakage. During the test, a calibrated fan pulls air out of the space and measures how much outside air enters through unintended openings in the building envelope.
In simple terms, the test measures how tightly a building is sealed, or how much outside air is able to enter.
The results provide clear, repeatable data that is recognized by cities, inspectors, and design teams and accepted for permitting and inspections.

WHEN AIR INFILTRATION TESTING IS REQUIRED
Air infiltration testing is commonly required in the following situations:

HOW THE TEST WORKS
These include:
The test results in a clear outcome: Pass or Does Not Meet the Requirement, with measured leakage values documented.

WHAT WE MEASURE
During testing, Blink Energy measures and documents:

TESTING FORMATS

Common for multifamily, senior living, assisted living, hospitality, and student housing projects. Each dwelling unit or sleeping room is tested individually.

Used for tenant spaces or conditioned zones within larger buildings.

Appropriate for commercial buildings, schools, and large multifamily properties. Whole-building testing requires additional coordination to control access, manage building systems, and maintain envelope conditions during the testing process.
WHY AIR INFILTRATION MATTERS
Blower door testing provides objective data to evaluate envelope performance before small issues become costly problems.
Excessive envelope leakage affects:
Energy use and utility costs
HVAC system sizing and reliability
Occupant comfort and draft control
Humidity and moisture management
Indoor air quality
Inspection outcomes and code compliance
